Increased media attention and tightening exposure standards have highlighted the need for appropriate workplace assessment of Respirable Crystalline Silica.

When workers cut, crush, drill, polish, saw or grind products that contain silica, dust particles are generated that are small enough to lodge deep in the lungs and cause illness or disease including silicosis.

Earlier this year, Greencap's Simon Ercole (National Practice Lead - Health & Safety) delivered a presentation as part of the NSCA Foundation Member Webinar Series titled 'The Challenge of Workplace Respirable Crystalline Silica Exposure Assessment'.

In this presentation, Simon discusses the challenges associated with gathering a statistically valid personal monitoring data set, interpreting the personal exposure data to reach a valid occupational hygiene exposure conclusion and the potential for underestimation of the true exposure profile.
