Greencap Proud Gold Business Supporter of Clean Up Australia Day 2022

13 April 2022

As part of Greencap's commitment to sustainability, the business has an active Eco-Sustainability Committee – a voluntary interest group (with membership open to all team members) who consistently champion the reduction of waste generated from business activities and promote ways in which not just the business, but also individuals can make a real difference such as in our regular Eco-News communication.

To reduce waste Greencap regularly participates in various recycling initiatives nationally including the standard paper and plastic, to e-waste, batteries, bread tags and our closed-loop Terracycle recycling programs (for asbestos single-use AIR cassettes and PPE hard hats).

In addition to these day-to day activities, Greencap is proud to have a long running association with Clean Up Australia, holding annual clean up events for over 15 years with a coordinated national response as a Silver Business Supporter since 2017 and now as a Gold Business Supporter since 2021.

Each year team members from each Greencap office nationally join hundreds of thousands of other Australian volunteers to step up and clean up, removing rubbish and other pollutants from their local environment to help reduce the estimated 130,000 tonnes of plastic which ends up in our waterways and oceans each year.

With Greencap’s events usually taking place to coincide with the official Business Clean Up Day (Tuesday 1st March 2022) the recent severe weather and subsequent flooding in NSW and QLD resulted in repeated rescheduling for our east coast events. However, this shows that waste challenges go beyond one day of the year.

Thankfully, Greencap team members have since been able to get out and about and clean up respective local communities in most regions, filling bags with the usual fare of cans, bottles, coffee cups, cigarette butts, general rubbish, and a significant number of disposable face masks.

This serves as a timely reminder that you can Clean Up Australia any day of the year!

About Clean up Australia

Clean Up Australia was formed over 30 years ago by the late Ian Kiernan AO, who had a simple idea - to make a difference in his own backyard. Clean Up Australia is now the nation's largest community-based environmental event inspiring and empowering Australians to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment.

Today their focus is as much on preventing rubbish entering our environment as it is removing what has already accumulated but the annual events still provide a much-needed boost towards keeping Australia clean!

Greencap acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.  We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
