New Requirement for RPE Fit Testing of NSW Healthcare Workers in High-Risk Areas

21 August 2020

The NSW Clinical Excellence Commission recently released new guidelines which now require any NSW healthcare worker in a high-risk area to be fit-tested for masks.

Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) comprises one of many control measures used to ensure workers are protected from exposure to airborne contaminants, including biological contaminants such as SARS-CoV-2. Due to the varying facial characteristics between individuals, fit testing is important to ensure the specific RPE facepiece is appropriate and fitted correctly for the user.

Face fit testing should be completed in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS 1715:2009, by a competent fit-tester.
